Trump Nominates Rep. Elise Stefanik as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York to serve as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, according to multiple Trump officials. Trump praised Stefanik in a statement to ABC News, saying, “I am honored to nominate Chairwoman Elise Stefanik to serve in my Cabinet as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Elise is an incredibly strong, tough, and smart America First fighter.”

Stefanik, a Republican who recently won reelection to her U.S. House seat, has established herself as a loyal Trump ally and a vocal partisan advocate. First elected to Congress in 2014 at age 30, Stefanik initially had a reputation as a moderate but later rose to prominence as a senior figure in the House Republican leadership.

She represents a mostly rural district in northern New York, which includes some of the state’s least populated areas.
