Iconic Chicago Ice Cream Parlor, Rainbow Cone, Debuts First Michigan Location

Chicago’s beloved Original Rainbow Cone, a cherished institution among ice cream aficionados, has made its debut in yet another state, expanding its reach beyond the Windy City.

Announcing its latest venture via Facebook, the ice cream parlor shared a snapshot of the ribbon-cutting ceremony at its newest location in New Buffalo, Michigan. Nestled within Sonny D’s Bar and Grill at 1 N. Whittaker St., this new outpost offers a taste of Rainbow Cone’s renowned delights to locals and visitors alike.

With a rich history spanning nearly a century, Rainbow Cone has captivated patrons with its iconic offering: five delectable flavors artfully stacked on a single cone, alongside the distinctive pink facade of its original Beverly neighborhood shop in Chicago.

In recent years, the business has expanded its footprint, venturing into various Chicago suburbs, including innovative dual-concept eateries in collaboration with Buona Beef, another esteemed local restaurant chain. Beyond its Illinois roots, Rainbow Cone has now planted itself in Michigan, marking its third state of operation.

Joining existing locations in Valparaiso, Indiana, and Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Rainbow Cone continues to enchant ice cream enthusiasts across the Midwest. The brand’s expansion journey shows no signs of slowing down, with plans underway for another Wisconsin establishment slated to open its doors in Lake Geneva come June.
