Egypt has issued a stern warning to Israel about “dire repercussions” if it continues its military operation in Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city on the Egyptian border. This warning includes the potential downgrading of diplomatic relations, an Egyptian official told CNN.
“Everything is possible and is on the table, including the downgrade of relations. But we are not there yet. We are talking to the Israelis, trying to explain and reach a consensus,” the official stated.
The official further explained that coordination between the two countries regarding the Rafah operation, which Egypt has publicly opposed, has been problematic. “It didn’t go well. And that’s why we warned Israel of dire repercussions,” the official added.
CNN has reached out to the Israeli foreign ministry for a comment, but there has been no immediate response.
Earlier, the Wall Street Journal reported that Egypt was considering downgrading its ties with Israel, reflecting the seriousness of the situation.
