The holiday season in Chicago kicks off with a magical spectacle—the 33rd annual Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. This year’s event will light up Michigan Avenue on Nov. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. It’s the largest evening parade of the season, transforming the city’s iconic shopping district into a festive wonderland with one million lights.
The parade will feature appearances from beloved Disney and Pixar characters, including the grand debut of Muppet-themed balloons, such as a 60-foot Santa Kermit the Frog alongside his friend Animal.
Adding to the festive spirit, the parade will include performances by musical celebrities, with 1980s band Cameo performing their hit “Word Up!” and 90s duo Quad City DJs, known for “C’mon N’ Ride It (The Train)” and “Space Jam.”
This year, Minnie and Mickey Mouse will serve as the Grand Marshalls, leading the parade as they light up over 200 trees along Michigan Avenue during the grand finale. The parade concludes with the “Wintrust Fireworks Spectacular” at 7 p.m.
The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival isn’t just about the parade—it’s also the day before the official 2024 Chicago Christmas Tree Lighting and the opening of the city’s famous Christkindlmarkets, setting the stage for a full weekend of holiday fun.
