The Chicago area has welcomed its first snowfall of the season, with the National Weather Service releasing accumulation totals from various locations.
At O’Hare International Airport, Chicago’s official weather station, 2.7 inches of snow have been recorded. This marks the first time since March that the city has seen more than an inch of snow. The last instance of more than two inches of snow in a single day occurred on Jan. 13, when 2.4 inches fell, following 4.7 inches the day prior.
Chicago’s first snowfall of the season is slightly behind schedule. On average, the city experiences its first trace of snow by Oct. 31. However, the first measurable snowfall typically occurs around Nov. 18, making this year’s accumulation closer to the norm. The first snowfall of an inch or more typically happens by Dec. 7, meaning this storm arrived a few weeks earlier than expected.
