Atlanta’s beloved Fountain of Rings in Centennial Olympic Park is set to undergo a significant transformation, thanks to a generous $2.5 million grant from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation.
The Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) announced plans to modernize the iconic fountain, promising a comprehensive upgrade that will enhance its technology, controls, water valves, lights, and fog system. With these improvements, officials anticipate the ability to tailor fountain shows and experiences to delight visitors both day and night.
Frank Poe, Executive Director of GWCCA, expressed gratitude to the Woodruff Foundation for their support, emphasizing the Fountain of Rings’ status as a cherished symbol of Atlanta’s Olympic legacy. He highlighted the project’s aim not only to preserve the fountain’s iconic stature but also to elevate the overall visitor experience for years to come.
Partnering with Fountain People, renowned for their expertise in water feature design, GWCCA aims to commence construction in August, with completion slated by year’s end. These upgrades represent the most significant enhancement to the Fountain of Rings since 2007, reaffirming its status as a focal point of Centennial Olympic Park.
In addition to revitalizing the fountain, GWCCA is also transforming the park’s visitor information center into a versatile facility, featuring a permanent exhibit dedicated to the Olympics. Scheduled to reopen in mid-July, this dual-purpose space will further enrich visitors’ understanding and appreciation of Atlanta’s Olympic heritage.
