Arlington Police Arrest Man After Rare Coin Sale Ends in Theft and Shooting

Arlington police arrested a man following a rare coin sale that escalated into theft and a shooting on Saturday evening.

The incident began when 23-year-old Edgar Ipina contacted the police around 6:35 p.m., reporting that he had been robbed and had shot at the suspect. Ipina explained that he was selling rare coins on an online marketplace and had arranged to meet a potential buyer in the parking lot near the Parks Mall.

During the meeting, the prospective buyer grabbed the coins and attempted to flee. In response, Ipina pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at the man, who managed to escape in a car.

Police arrested Ipina and charged him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, as it did not appear the buyer was armed or had threatened him.

A man matching the buyer’s description, 34-year-old Booker Ross, was later taken to a Fort Worth hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. His injuries were described as non-life-threatening. Ross will be booked into jail on one count of theft from a person.

No other injuries were reported, and the incident did not affect mall operations, according to police.
