Chicago will officially be recognized as a “purple heart city”

On Veterans Day, Chicago will earn the official designation of “Purple Heart City,” symbolizing the city’s strong commitment to honoring military service members and their sacrifices. Families and local leaders will gather to pay tribute at Chicago’s annual Veterans Day ceremony, held at 11 a.m. at Soldier Field.

City officials described the recognition as “a testament to the city’s unwavering support for veterans and their families” in a formal statement. In honor of the occasion, Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Brandon Johnson will lay a wreath at the Soldier Field memorial.

Additionally, Chicago will light up with a special message expressing gratitude to veterans throughout the city.
