CPD: Pistol Whipping of Sisters in Chinatown Part of Larger Crime Spree

Chicago ChinaTown – Two sisters were violently assaulted and robbed in Chicago’s Chinatown early Thursday morning, adding to a series of violent incidents in the neighborhood, police reported.

The attack occurred around 1:40 a.m. in an alley on the 2400 block of South Wentworth Avenue. The victims, aged 26 and 31, had just arrived from a flight from Midway Airport when they were ambushed by two men who emerged from a silver SUV. The attackers brandished guns and demanded the women’s belongings, according to police.

“It happened so fast,” one of the victims told ABC7. “I could taste blood in my mouth.” The women were robbed of a wallet, a purse, and several hundred dollars. The assailants then pistol-whipped the sisters in their faces before fleeing in the SUV. Both women refused medical attention, police said.

The incident is part of a broader crime spree in the area, which has seen a string of similar violent robberies and carjackings. Police are investigating possible connections between Thursday’s robbery and other recent crimes in the neighborhood.
